HIKING TO THE OLD MAN OF STORR

This deservedly very popular walk climbs up for a close look at the massive pinnacle of the Old Man of Storr – one of Scotland’s most iconic places.

The Old Man is in fact just one element in an array of fantastic rock features, and the views out over the Sound of Raasay and to the mainland are stunning.

BOAT TRIP ON THE MISTY ISLE

Isle of Skye Boat Trips from Elgol to Loch Coruisk have been running for many generations. Seumas Mackinnon is a local skipper, born and bred in the village of Elgol with a lifetime of experience at sea.

Sail with Seumas to visit Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillin hills where we guarantee you will enjoy a variety of wildlife and some outstandingly beautiful Highland scenery. We also guarantee you will enjoy some true Highland hospitality!

THE MARBLE LINE IN BROADFORD

The Marble Line just outside Broadford is the route of the old marble quarry train. It was in use in the early 20th Century. In more recent times it has been lovingly restored by Broadford and Strath Community Company into an accessible footpath.

Linking to other paths in the area the Marble Line is a popular way to see Strath Suardal, the deserted villages of Suishnish and Boreraig and Old Corry. For our walk we simply concentrated on the Marble Line itself.

LOOP AROUND THE QUIRAING

The truly spectacular Quiraing is an icon of Scotland. Many people visit only the first short section of path, but this complete hill circuit goes further, passing the Prison, Needle and other features before climbing back to return above the escarpment.

The Quiraing is located in the northern Trotternish Peninsula. The peninsula has a long, dramatic mountain ridge which was created by a massive landslip. The end result is some incredible, interesting scenery and interesting rock formations, which are a pleasure to hike around.

NEIST POINT LIGHTHOUSE

Neist Point – the most westerly headland on Skye – is an iconic destination, with stunning cliff scenery, a fine lighthouse, an outlook to the Outer Hebrides, and the chance to watch for minke whales in the summer months.

While the walk down is an easy one, the concrete path does get quite steep at times. From the path you will see stunning views of the high cliffs and the lighthouse itself, at sunset the view is made even more spectacular making this a top destination for landscape photographers.

THE WORLD FAMOUS FAIRY POOLS

This exceptionally popular walk leads into typical Cuillin scenery without the need for any scrambling or other difficulties. The first section follows a beautiful crystal clear stream full of lovely pools and waterfalls – well worth a shorter walk in itself.

This part of route has been heavily promoted and the paid car park is busy in high season. It’s best to either arrive early, or consider a quieter alternative at such times. The other Cuillin corries are equally magical, and much less visited.
